Community Hubs FAQs
-
We’re always excited to grow our network of Community Hubs, but hosting is a leadership role within our composting movement. We're looking for people who are committed, communicative, and ready to make a positive impact. To become a host, you’ll need to meet the following criteria:
A strong commitment to sustainability and community: Hosts are the heart of their hubs. You’ll need to involve and support at least 15 members to keep the hub active. We’re looking for individuals who care deeply about the planet and want to foster environmental change in their neighborhoods.
Location: You must live in Miami-Dade. In some cases, we can arrange hosting in parts of Broward, but the program currently focuses on Miami-Dade County.
Willingness to stay connected: We ask that you create and manage a WhatsApp group for your hub. This helps you welcome new members, share updates, and coordinate pickups when compost is ready.
Contamination oversight: Keeping the compost clean is essential. As a host, you'll need to monitor your hub regularly to ensure that no plastic, glass, or trash is mixed in with the organics.
Strong communication and collaboration: We value hosts who are responsive, communicative, and proactive. Staying in touch with our team helps everything run smoothly. We also count on you to help grow your hub and keep the community engaged.
Accessible space for the bin: You’ll need to provide a secure and accessible outdoor space for the compost bin—somewhere members can easily reach during the day. The area should be easy to find, safe to approach, and ideally protected from heavy rain.

The pink bucket is not included on this membership but we’d be happy to deliver it if you choose to purchase it. You can also purchase the kitchen caddy and any other materials through the portal.
-
Whether that’s once a week, biweekly, or even once a month, you can choose what works best for you. Just be sure to check with your host for any specific drop-off hours, as availability may vary depending on the location.
Since this is a shared community space, we ask all members to be mindful of others using the same bin. Please follow the same guidelines as our residential program—this means only composting accepted materials and helping keep the bin free of contamination.
We do not accept glass, plastic, aluminum, trash, or branches and plants larger than 5 inches. Contamination affects the entire batch and creates extra work for everyone involved.
To make it easy, please refer to our Compostable Materials Poster to know exactly what can and cannot be added to the bin. Following these simple rules keeps your hub clean, safe, and running smoothly for the whole community.
